Simply Sauteed Broccoli Rabe
A Delicious Side Dish
Or Another Easy Healthy Dinner Recipe

You can serve this simply sauteed broccoli rabe recipe as a side dish.  You can also serve it with noodles or pasta.  I sometimes will multiply the volume and make a very healthy lunch out of it.

Simply Sautéed Broccoli Rabe Recipe

Prep Time: 5 Minutes   Cook Time: 10 Minutes   Serving: 2-4

Broccoli Rabe is also called Rapini or Broccoli Raab (with double “a”).  It reminds me a popular Chinese vegetable, "Choi Sum".  Why?  The texture, smell and taste is pretty
much the same.  However, "Choi Sum" does not have the bitter taste or the look of the broccoli.

You cannot totally get rid of the bitter taste of broccoli rabe, but make it milder.  To do that, that is where the salty boiling water comes into picture.  The salt neutralizes its bitterness.

Ingredients

2 bunches of Broccoli Rabe (about 2-2.5LBs)
1 Clove Minced Garlic
1 ½ teaspoon Salt (divided)
¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
1 tablespoon Canola Oil
1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  1. Fill up half of the soup pot or Dutch oven with water and bring it to a boil
  2. While waiting, trim the end of the stems of the broccoli rabe and discard (about 1/2" from the bottom of the stems where you are going to cut)
  3. Cut across the vegetables into halves
  4. Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon canola oil into the boiling water
  5. Add the stems first and then the rest of the vegetables (because it takes a little bit longer to cook the stems. The leaves wilt in no time)
  6. Stir and make sure all the vegetables are immersed into the water
  7. Let it cook for about 1-2 minutes
  8. Drain the vegetables through a colander
(If you plan to re-use this pot for cooking the vegetables again, make sure you rinse it well)
  9. Preheat a big skillet or the same pot you just used and rinsed earlier at medium high heat
  10. Add extra virgin olive oil, broccoli rabe, garlic, ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper
  11. Stir to combine and stir regularly in between
  12. Cook about 2-3 minutes or until most of the water at the bottom of the pot evaporated and serve

Simply Sauteed Broccoli Rabe and Kielbasa

Simply Sautéed Broccoli Rabe and Kielbasa Recipe

Prep Time: 10 Minutes   Cook Time: 20 Minutes   Serving:4

You can definitely pair the simply sauteed broccoli rabe recipe with other ingredients to make it another easy dinner.  I use kielbasa because of its flavor which is perfect to balance the bite of the vegetable.

There is a slight change of the original simply sauteed broccoli rabe recipe.  Since the kielbasa is so flavorful, I got rid of the garlic and ½ teaspoon of salt.  But feel
free to add them back per your preference.

Ingredients

1 pound Kielbasa Sausage (sliced; you can use any kind of pre-cooked sausages.  I personally prefer the hot and spicy one.)
2 bunches of Broccoli Rabe (about 2-2 ½ pounds)
1 teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
1 tablespoon Canola Oil
1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  1. Preheat a big skillet at medium to medium high heat and brown the kielbasa; about 3-5 minutes each side
  2. Transfer to plate and put aside
  3. Fill up half of the soup pot or Dutch oven with water and bring it to a boil
  4. While waiting, trim the end of the stems of the broccoli rabe and discard (about 1/2" from the bottom of the stems where you are going to cut)
  5. Cut across the vegetables into halves
  6. Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon canola oil into the boiling water
  7. Add the stems first and then the rest of the vegetables (because it takes a little bit longer to cook the stems. The leaves wilt in no time)
  8. Stir and make sure all the vegetables are immersed into the water
  9. Let it cook for about 1-2 minutes
  10. Drain the vegetables through a colander
(If you plan to re-use this pot for cooking the vegetables again, make sure you rinse it well.  However, with the kielbasa, I highly recommend you to use the skillet that you just cooked the kielbasa sausage.  Then, the vegetables will absorb all the great flavors left on the pan)
  11. Preheat a big skillet or the same pot you just used and rinsed earlier at medium high heat
  12. Add extra virgin olive oil, broccoli rabe, garlic, ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper
  13. Stir to combine and stir regularly in between
  14. Cook about 2-3 minutes or until most of the water at the bottom of the pot evaporated Add the kielbasa back into the skillet
  15. Quick toss and serve
