What made me go crazy for getting these quick pantry soup recipes up?
Well, as always, we were busy at running around for the sport events. For over a month that I barely made enough lunches and dinners. Then, I got sick one day. All of a sudden, I realized that I didn’t even have chicken soup in the freezer.
I was home alone at the time. Husband was at work. Kid was at school. Since my husband worked quite far away from home, I couldn’t rely on someone to pick up my kid after school. I was shivering. In the back of my mind, I told myself, "I got to get something warm in my stomach. And I must feel well enough in 3 hours to pick up my kid when school dismissed."
All of a sudden, an idea came up to make soup with my pantry and freezer ingredients. In 15 minutes, I got a bowl of hot soup in my hand. The good news was that I started to feel better in that late afternoon and picked up my kid from school in time. By evening, my energy was almost back to normal.
So, all in all, everything turned out to be good. That incident inspired me to explore more options to make quick soup with very little time.
You can use these quick soup recipes for many reasons. It can be for healing, quick dinner, a surprise visit of a guest and many more. For busy families and single-parent families, these soup recipes are the must for any emergency.
Before diving into the delicious soup, let's check out some of the tips first.
First of all, let’s define what is pantry staples. It is the food item which has a shelf life for at least 3 months. Some may have a couple years.
With that said, frozen food, canned food, dry food, such as dry pasta, rice and beans, spices and dry herbs are all considered as pantry staples.
Why do we need to cover this? It is because there are endless possibilities for you to make something different from the recipes shown on this page.
Because I like to stick to my low-carb diet, I don’t add pasta or rice in the soup. But please feel free to do what best fits you. If that’s your choice, cook pasta or rice separately to avoid it getting soggy. Add it into the soup at the time of serving. And if you happen to have leftover, you don’t have to worry about the soggy pasta or noodles either. You can store soup and noodles separately.
When there is no time for cooking pasta and rice, there are some pre-cooked ones that you can buy from the stores. They are more expensive due to its convenience. It’s just an option for you to consider.
You may have more than what it shows here in your pantry. It can be different kinds of canned vegetables, beans, soup mix and etc.To make quick soup flavorful in a short time, broth plays a very significant role here. However, broth can be expensive.
If that is out of your budget, use bouillon cubes. I personally love this brand because it has less additives and preservatives in there.
As you go through these quick soup recipes, you will see it multiple times that the frozen vegetables are part of the ingredients. I personally prefer frozen vegetables because they are fresher and less additives and processing. But canned vegetables are easy for storage and cut cook time significantly. So, they are interchangeable.
Beware: Cook time listed in these pantry soup recipes based on frozen vegetable cook time.
(Side Note: Never thaw frozen vegetables before cooking. This will keep them crisp tender. Otherwise, the vegetables get soggy before cooking.)
Staying away from seasoned vegetables give you more flexibility to incorporate these pantry ingredients into your soup recipes.
